SVG Image URL in Card (New) Visual is not working - March 2025 update

The new card visual seems to have a bug when using a measure containing svg-code. By selecting Image type = Image URL and adding a measure with svg-code to create a custom graphic, nothing happens.

It looks like the issue is specific to the Card (new) visual after the update, since previously created ones are still working and the PNG images are working in other visuals so the problem is likely with the Card (new) visual itself, possibly due to a breaking change in the latest update.

Note: when reverting back to feb version, its working fine.

Status: Accepted

It is an issue with newly created formatting for New Card in SU03 / March release. Existing formatting and rules should still apply correctly in the web, and using Feb is a valid workaround. We have fixed this for April Desktop, and are working on a QFE into March Desktop as well (no ETA yet).

@mattleethe web version is still not working. For me the desktop version works as its still on Jan version. But the webspace displays the text instead of the image.
EDIT: PBi services working as expected now.

@mattlee when you say fixed for april does that include the service? when will the april desktop be released?

We are using the Feb 2025 version of desktop, but when we publish the report to service that's when things don't render properly. I didn't really understand the reply from Microsoft, but I think our issue is related to a recent change to service as this only started happening this week.

EDIT: Our visuals in service are now displaying as they should, looks like Microsoft have made a change.

I've just tried desktop update version 2.141.1580.0 (Published: 10/04/2025) but the new card visual still refuses to apply field-based conditional formatting to callout values font colour or card background colour, and also refuses to display an image via image URL (SVG generated via a measure).

The 4/10 QFE did not contain the fix, there was a higher priority fix that could not wait. There should be another March QFE very soon to fix creating conditional formatting rules for New Card.

Thanks @mattlee, Version 2.141.1754.0 (published 16th April) has restored my conditional formatting and images in the desktop application, but when published to Service they fail to materialise.

I found a temporary solution. Since the old cards are still working, you can create a copy of your .pbix file, change the name of the measure and source table that the old and functioning card is referencing to the new measure you want the card to use as a condition. Then you copy the card from the copied file to the current file, so it will reference the new measure you want and continue working.

Hey,
I had the same problem and for me the svg images started to work after adding a ‘Category’. I used it to have only one category, disable all ‘Small multiple layers’ and make the ‘Small multiple header’ transparent.
