Hello everyone,

I have a few questions about the Fabric Admin monitoring workspace.

What is the difference between an External Member and a Home member? 

Why is this chart in the Analysis and Inventory sections showing partial green and partial grey for the different items? What do the different colors mean?

In general regarding the roles :

• External Member:
  External Members are users who have been granted access to the workspace but are not part of the organization.
  Examples:
• Vendors or contractors collaborating on specific projects.
• Guest users added to the workspace through Azure Active Directory (AAD).
• Their access is typically limited to specific resources as shared by the organization.
• Home Member:
  Home Members are users who are part of the organization and are considered internal users.
  Examples:
• Employees or staff who have accounts within the organization's Azure AD or directory.
• They generally have full access to the workspace and its resources, depending on their role and permissions.

The partial green and partial grey colours in the chart represent the status or activity levels of the monitored items:

• Green: Indicates items that are active, functioning correctly, or compliant with the desired state.
• Grey: Represents items that are either inactive, not configured, or not being used at the moment.
  
  

 This colour coding helps users quickly assess the overall health and activity levels of the items.

Thank you for the explanation. However, I have noticed that the 'External member' category in our report includes individuals who are definitely a part of our organization. In fact, we have more external members than home members which doesn't make sense. Is there some other criteria that their logins are being judged on (maybe whether they have a pro license?). Or is this a bug?

Hi @Neka ,

Home Members belong to the same tenant as the organization, meaning they are part of the organization's Azure Active Directory (AAD).

In contrast, External Members are users from a different tenant. They are technically considered external to the organization because their accounts are managed by a separate directory.

If your report is classifying internal users as External Members, it could point to an issue with how these accounts are being identified. For instance, users who lack a Pro license or are configured with guest-like permissions might be mistakenly categorized as external.
