Connect Semantic Model from other workspace

Hello everyone,

Currently I have a Fabric workspace, and also I have access to a semantic model from a PBI report that is allocated in other workspace.

I would like to consume this semantic model from my Fabric Workspace to generate ad-hoc tables or queries that I will consume in new dashboards. I imagine such queries that I can perform over a Dataflow and save the result in a lakehouse table.

Do you know the step-by-step that I should perform to achieve this objective?

Thank you so much.

Enable Cross-Workspace Semantic Model Usage
To allow semantic models to be shared across workspaces, the Microsoft Fabric administrator must enable the necessary tenant setting:
• Open the Microsoft Fabric Admin Portal.
• Navigate to Tenant Settings.
• Search for “semantic models.”
• Under Workspace Settings, locate the option Use semantic models across workspaces and toggle it on.
• Optionally, restrict this setting to specific security groups for governance purposes.
• Click Apply to save changes

Power BI Service
• In the target workspace, click New > Power BI Report.
• Select the shared semantic model from the list of available datasets in your organization.
• Build and save your report directly in this workspace

Hi @v-juangutier ,

To access semantic model across workspaces, tenant setting needs to be enabled. Please refer the link here. You need to certify/endorse these dataset, so users org can discover this one. Else you can give build permission on these datasets.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-admin-across-workspaces

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-across-workspaces

Then you can utilize semantic link lab library as provided by Michael Kowalski. It shows existing Power BI dataset can be converted to a power query template file using these scripts. And uploading these pqt file into ms fabric via dataflow gen 2 moves the data to Fabric Lakehouse followed by steps to convert into direct lake semantic model. Please check the below link for detailed steps.
